Photos: GEOFF RIDDER CONTINUED Page The first Suzuki round of 2010-11 Suzuki Swift Sport Cup racing series at Pukekohe has been won by Coatesville driver Mike Turley in only his second year of racing. Turley won two of last weekend's three races and finished with a hard- fought fifth in the final reverse grid race to take maximum points and the championship lead. We couldn't have hoped for it to be any better,'' Turley says. We came here with a plan to lead the cham- pionship, so hopefully it's going to carry on that way.'' Sunday's two Suzuki races took place in sunny conditions in front of one of the best crowds that's been seen at Pukekohe for some time. In the first 10-lap race Turley led from start to finish, fending off a series of determined attacks from Turua's AJ Lauder. Sixteen-year-old Laud- er used the advantage of slipstreaming Turley's Suzuki down Pukekohe's long back straight but was unable to convert the advantage into a suc- cessful passing manoeu- vre. The final race of the weekend has competitors lined up in reverse order based on points they've accrued from the first two races, putting Ran- giora's Chris Cox on pole position for a largely incident-free race filled with passing and repass- ing manoeuvres. The entire third race was dicing, duelling, ducking, and diving -- it was brilliant,'' Suzuki New Zealand motorsport manager Darren Stevens says. The second round of the Suzuki Swift Sport Cup is in Christchurch at the Powerbuilt Tools Raceway at Ruapuna Park over the weekend of November 26-28. Mike Turley holds a 10-point series lead over Dane Fisher who is 16 points ahead of AJ Lauder of Turua.
