Meet Will Martin Will Martin: A sneak preview of his yet-to-be released new album is at Hoyts Cinema in Whangaparaoa tomorrow. Singer Will Martin will attend a premier screening of Burzynski at Hoyts Hibis- cus Coast in Whangaparaoa tomorrow at 7pm. Will is an ambassador for the Breast Health Foun- dation which has the fundraiser jointly sponsored by Hoyt s Cinema and Film Net. The screening is exclus- ively for Film Net members, a private film society estab- lished in 2004, but Will is planning to meet members of the public in Hoyts Cafe at 7pm. He will talk about his new album Inspirations. It includes songs by 12 of the world s popular songwriters, including Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Sting, accompanied by Europe s premier contemporary and orchestral musicians. The album is not being officially released until November 22, but will be played in the background on the evening. The 26-year-old is the youngest tenor in musical history to top the classical charts in the United King- dom after achieving double platinum status in New Zea- land for his first album A New World. Visit www.willmartin.co.nz for more information. Summer means skin cancer An early start to summer has meant there are already plenty of swimmers at the district s beaches. The Health Sponsorship Council wants to keep them free of skin cancer. SunSmart Awareness Week runs from November 14 to 20 promoting the message that the best way to avoid getting too much ultraviolet radiation is to slip, slop, slap and wrap -- especially from 11am to 4pm during the day- light saving months. The Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand is supporting its health partner with some members putting on a win- dow display competition with resources supplied by the council. The guild is delighted our member pharmacies are pro- moting the work of SunS- mart, president Ian Johnson says. Sun safety is crucial in the New Zealand climate, especially with our high rates of skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in New Zealand -- with 69,000 new cases diagnosed annu- ally. Melanoma is the most serious type and New Zea- land rates are the highest in the world. It kills 300 New Zealanders a year yet it is largely pre- ventable by taking sensible SunSmart precautions. For more information on keeping SunSmart, go to www.sunsmart.org.nz. Supercity from a business view Figuring out how the supercity changes can work to your business advantage will be the topic of a meeting hosted by the Rodney Econ- omic Development Trust on December 2. The evening will be held in the committee room at the Auckland Council offices at 50 Centreway Rd, Orewa, starting at 5.30pm with a glass of wine and an oppor- tunity to network. Auckland Council North- ern Region economic advisers Gill Plume and Claire Sid- dens will speak on what the changes will mean for your business. They are followed by local board relationship manager Lesley Jenkins, who will discuss the role and functions of local boards and how this will relate to busi- ness and economic develop- ment. David Wild of Smith and Wild will end the night with a talk on marketing. Contact nicky@bizrodney. com or phone (09) 427-9475 by November 25 to secure your place.
