Photos: DAVID TATE A pleasing start for Springboard Official opening: The Springboard facility at Snells Beach. The community turned out in force to mark the opening of Springboard Community Works' new premises in Hamatana Rd, Snells Beach. Springboard runs a successful alternative education programme for at-risk youth and a mon- itoring programme for those aged eight to 14. The official opening featured an impressive front row. It included Rodney police area commander inspector Janet Hope, Asia-Pacific Risk Man- agement director Stuart Henderson, Mahurangi College principal David Macleod, Springboard director Gary Diprose, Auckland Council Rod- ney Ward councillor Penny Webster, Wark- worth police senior sergeant Bede Haughey, Springboard chairman Mark Palmer, Auckland District Court Judge Tony Fitzgerald and Mook Hohneck of Ngati Manuhiri. Judge Fitzgerald com- mended the crowd on their support. Communities are the key to the door of success when it comes to effecting change with youth who need help,'' he said. Penny Webster was also impressed. If every community in Auckland knew there was a Springboard, they would want one,'' she says.
