The person we consider most deserving will receive flowers courtesy of: PH/Fax (09) 426 5287 firstname.lastname@example.org Thanks a bunch This week s bouquet from Flowers by Joanne goes to Paul Collins of Orewa for coming to Pam Pattle s aid when she had a fall at her back door, breaking both her legs. I was home by myself when it happened, Pam says. Fortunately I had my cellphone in my pocket and I called 111. All the ambulances from Silverdale were busy and a unit had to be dispatched from Albany, which took 30 minutes. I called my daugh- ter and she could tell I was going into shock quickly, but she lived too far away to help. She contacted Orewa Baptist Church, which is just around the corner from me, and the associate pas- tor Paul Collins came immediately. He got a duvet, pillows, and hot water bottle to keep me warm. Paul s friendly face and thoughtful- ness got me through what seemed like an age. Email your Thanks a Bunch nomination to email@example.com. Christmas comes to Orewa Beach Christmas cheer: Destination Orewa Beach's Leanne Smith installs Christmas wreaths around Orewa to encourage the Christmas spirit. Destination Orewa Beach has been encour- aging Christmas spirit in Orewa with festive decorations up around the town. The community was asking where s the Christmas decorations and festive spirit in town ? operation man- ager Leanne Smith says. So she spent hours upgrading the wreaths and installing them. The former Rodney District Council used to help with the wreaths annual installation and removal. The changeover to the Auckland Council meant that Destination Orewa Beach had to meet that cost. The Orewa town cen- tre street decorations are owned by Orewa busi- ness members repres- ented by Destination Orewa Beach, Leanne says. The association even owns the flag bars that hold the decorations and flags up. She says no Auckland Council contributions were made to the com- mercial grade wreaths which cost association members $1179.90 per lamp post. The wreaths are due for replacement, a cost the Orewa Business Association may not be able to cover with more than 30 lamp posts to decorate. However, it s wonder- ful to hear that the com- munity has taken owner- ship of their town centre and want Orewa Beach to look the part, Leanne says. Fulton Hogan assisted by placing flag bars along Orewa Boulevard to hang the wreaths on.
