The work is part of the government s initiative which will see 75 percent of New Zealand covered by 2019. The access prices Crown Fibre Holdings has negotiated will ensure the benefits of fibre are within reach of businesses as well as everyday New Zealanders, Communications and Infor- mation Technology Minister Steven Joyce says. Wholesale household prices will start at $40 or less per month for an entry level prod- uct, and there will be no con- nection charges for households. Northland Regional Coun- cil chairman Craig Brown says it s great news for Whangarei and Northland. Boat course helps women take charge in emergency An award-winning Coast- guard Northern Region course is giving women the confidence to get themselves and loved ones to safety should they find themselves at the helm in an emergency. The Suddenly In Charge tutorial is designed to engage women in boat safety and provide the skills and know- ledge to help deal with on- board emergencies such as a man overboard, fire or medi- cal problem. Each course involves an emergency and safety equip- ment overview, a theory sec- tion to cover rules, regulations and markers and a practical component that includes a rope throw, tying up to a wharf/jetty and fender replacement/usage. The evenings have been developed by women for women, Coastguard Northern Region chief executive officer Dean Lawrence says. Learning more about basic boat safety can make boating more enjoyable for everyone. More than 200 women have benefited from six Suddenly In Charge courses. Natasha Reid of Whangaparaoa attended because she was spending more time on a yacht and became aware of the risks. The next course is Febru- ary 3 at the Auckland Marine Rescue Centre in Mechanics Bay. To book call 0508 RES- CUE -- 0800-737-283, email email@example.com or visit www.coastguard. org.nz.
