RodneySport EMAIL SPORTS NEWS TO: firstname.lastname@example.org Inaugural Wellsford Sevens kicking off Action at Wellsford: Ross Neal bites the dust after tackling Brad Christiansen of Hikurangi in a 15s event earlier in the year. This Saturday sees sevens action at the Wellsford Rugby Club. The inaugural club sevens tournament kicks off at 10am The contest has attracted 12 teams from north of the bridge who will battle it out for a spot in the grand final played just after 4pm. The programme is designed as a family day with plenty of good rugby and a swathe of things to keep kids and adults happy between games. There will be a DJ and Wellsford's biggest ever lolly scramble, which will involve a heli- copter,'' Ross Neal says. Together with Jim and Claire Phillips he organised the event in conjunction with the club. Plenty of hot food and refreshments, including a bar, will be available. If you still have energy after the prizegiving, join in the after game func- tion at the club. We are hoping for a good local turnout to support the Wellsford Rugby Club and then we can make this a big annual event in the area,'' Ross says. Pool A -- Muriwhenua, Moerewa, Otamatea.o Pool B -- Western Sharks, Port Albert, Invitational. Pool C -- Wellsford, Mahurangi, Waitemata. Pool D -- Marist, East Coast Bays, Tomarata. The trophy comes home The cup's back: Four of the six in North Harbour's triumphant line-up are from the local district. The full team comprises, from left: Julitta Lam, Faye-Amy Nickson, Rica Tse, Rebekah Brownlee, Kristin Farrell and 13-year-old Lydia Ko. The North Harbour women's representative golf team is once again national champions after they went through the 2010 Interprovincial tournament unbeaten at Mirimar Golf Club in Wellington. The team of Lydia Ko and Rebekah Brownlee of Gulf Harbour Golf Club, Faye-Amy Nickson (Peninsula), Julitta Lam (Muriwai), Kristin Farrell (Waitakere) and Rica Tse (North Shore) made up for their heart- breaking loss in the final last year. After six round robin matches, North Harbour faced Wellington in the semi-finals and won comfortably 4-1. The afternoon saw North Harbour jump to an early lead in the final against Waikato and never relinquish it, although there were some tense moments. In the end North Har- bour No 1 Lydia Ko sealed the victory with a 20-foot birdie putt on the 16th taking her two up over Emily Perry, mean- ing North Harbour could not be beaten. The team played superbly all week, none more so than national representative and player of the tourna- ment, 13-year-old Lydia Ko who was undefeated and under par in all of her rounds. Sang Ho Lee from Huapai won the 2010 Reg Webber Masters golf championship at South Head Golf Club. One shot behind were locals Jason White, with Arron Masters and Don- ald Young equal third. In the women's division, Pupuke's Kathy Stevens held on to a three-shot victory from Alice Hutton and Cristine Gaskill. The tournament is held each year to help the greenkeepers with funds to keep the course in great condition.
