Proudly supported by: Liquor ban area AT.10/EdenPark Spinners at library It's time to weave new stories for the Brightside Spinners Club which will now have monthly gatherings at the Whangaparaoa library starting on February 3. The group has been meeting regularly for 20 years at the old Red Cross building in Silverdale. The Hibiscus Coast Brightside Spinners club was founded 40 years ago by Violet Newman, together with five other members, Olwyn Car- michael, Ruth Hardy, Beryl Thomson, May Dowell and Moya Baker. It got its name after the street Violet lived on. In 1975, the group registered with the New Zealand Spinning Weav- ing and Woolcraft society, with a member- ship of 12, and met on the first and third of Tuesday of every month. The group has 30 members and is looking for more to join them. No experience is required. The project is the final phase of a three-year study aimed at better understanding how New Zealanders use and think about all types of medicines, and to deter- mine if they are life- saving or life-styling'', study leader Professor Kerry Chamberlain says. Professor Chamberlain and co-researcher Helen Madden, from the school of psychology at Albany, want to find out why people take alternative treatments and if they feel differently about them compared with pharmacological drugs. Anyone interested contact Helen Madden, email h.madden@mas sey.ac.nz, or call (09) 414-0800 ext 41220.
