Photo: DAVID TATE Hot time coming up for petrol heads Rodders are revved up for the 17th national Hell Pizza Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival at Kumeu on January 15 and 16. Metallic attractions include a 502 cubic inch Boss Hogg trike from the United States, drag racing displays both real size and miniature, model aircraft acro- batics, and hundreds of cars and motorbikes of all shapes and forms. You can even the look the part in the 1950s-1960s Blast from the Past in the outdoor arena, having your hair styled and dressing in fashions of the era to pose along- side cars and other memorabilia of the times. Nearly 50,000 visitors are expected at the popular two-day event at the Kumeu Showgrounds. A new 350 Chevy engine worth about $4000 can be won in a lucky entry draw on each day. A Saturday night stomp, Rockit 2011 features Al Dawson and The Wild Kats and the Rockabilly Rebels in the nearby Kumeu Com- munity Centre from 7.30pm to 12.30am. Tickets $15. Bands Tom Petty and the Heartaches and Dr Hook and the Medics play on Saturday and Sunday respectively on the festi- val stage.
