Hippy families mark a successful year Seventy Hippy South Kaipara families and supporters cel- ebrated the completion of the year at the Helensville Community Hall. Those who had completed the full 60-week, two-year course graduated in their caps and gowns and were presented with certificates, books and gifts. Those who were working on or had completed the first 30 weeks, were also given certificates and gifts to acknowledge their hard work. Hippy kids work at home on their work with their parents who are supported by a tutor. They are provided with all of the Hippy workbooks, story books, shapes and materials needed. Parents also get together each fortnight to work together on the material, share ideas, listen to interesting speakers, take part in craft activities and make new friends. This year the Hippy office will be based at the Parakai Primary School. Co-ordinator Bernie Malizia is now taking enrolments. Children need to be between three and four years old at March this year to enrol in the pro- gramme. Hippy does not take the place of other education such as kinder- garten, but is something for famil- iestodoaswellasgoingtoa preschool. Phone Bernie on (09) 420-7434 for more information on the Hippy programme.
