Photo: DAVID TATE A great day for the fam- ily is promised at the 144th Warkworth A and P Show at the Wark- worth Showgrounds, State Highway 1, on January 22-23. People are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy the all-day enter- tainment in the re- vamped pavilion arena which will be officially opened at 9.30am on Saturday, January 22 -- the main show day. Marjorie Blythen has been organising the show for more than 20 years, supported by a hard- working team. The Warkworth community gets behind the event with all fundraising going back into the com- munity. This year we have a fantastic new arena and a huge lawn with a mar- quee full of produce and baking,'' Marjorie says. In the marquee we'll have wine and beer tasting, food, all-day entertainment, country music, working trade displays and art and crafts. There'll be cro- quet and golf in the arena plus plenty of sideshows and entertain- ment for children.'' Highlights include Chelsea Marriner, 2010 IFCS World Agility Cup champion and her team of eight dogs. Greg Clarke will do shearing demonstrations in the arena. And there's a special stand chop mem- orial for the late Rex Parker. Equestrian classes run on Sunday and this year the dressage group will do a quadual formation display. Leading up to this year's event Marjorie has received many new inquiries, and the show keeps getting bigger and better. It's such a wonderful community event,'' she says. This year we have a full house of alpacas and a variety of dairy, beef and goats. We also have regular events like calf club, young handlers and a pet lamb class which people can enter on the day. And of course the popular egg and spoon, and sack races, held just before the judging of show queen, princess, fairy and pirate.'' The Bayleys silent auction closes at 2.30pm Saturday, and the live auction starts at 3pm. Money raised goes to the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind's Guide Dog Service char- ity. Gates open 6.30am to 5pm both days. Contact Marjorie Bly- then, phone or fax (09) 422-2052 or email wark firstname.lastname@example.org. nz for more information.
