I would like to pub- licly thank Wayne Walker for all his sup- port for the Hibiscus Coast branch of the Kiwi Conservation Club,'' Samantha Crow says. The club is the junior section of Forest and Bird. Wayne helped us find a new venue at the Whangaparaoa Rate- payers Hall, central to most of our members. He has offered support and expertise. He has been very helpful, supportive and has great com- munity spirit. Thank you very much Wayne -- you are fantastic.'' Horses die in floods By LISA HONEYBONE Help needed: Vanessa Veart-Smith is organising supplies to help horse victims of the Queensland floods. Photo: BEN WATSON A Dairy Flat rider is gathering horse supplies for Queensland flood victims. Vanessa Veart-Smith decided to do something when she heard from a trainer friend who runs an equestrian centre next to a Queensland river. She says she couldn't imagine watching the river rise and seeing horses under water. Some people lost large numbers of horses, including one of Aus- tralia's richest men Clive Palmer, who lost 80 horses. Mrs Veart-Smith is the busi- ness development manager at Alexandra Park. She says she does lots of charity work but not usually emergency response. Some people have lost everything, she says. Mrs Veart-Smith hopes to get a container of gear together from halters and leads to medical supplies. They can't send feed or supplements because of restrictions. Some people are also making donations to the RSPCA, she says. People have until Thursday to drop their contribution into Alex- andra Park or Saddlery Ware- house stores. Qantas freight will send it to Australia free. Visit www.facebook.com/pages/ Donate-and-Help-the-Horses-and- Horse-Owner-Victims-in-the-Qld- Floods/192376550776534.
