Fruit phone: Dial A for Apple by New Plymouth artist Jo Mallinger is one of more than 170 artworks in the hospice fundraising exhibition at Matakana this weekend. More than 50 artists from Northland to New Plymouth exhibit works at the Matakana School hall this holiday week- end, helping raise funds for Warkworth Wellsford Hospice. The fifth annual M-art-akana exhibition opens with a preview tonight and continues from Friday lunchtime to Sunday evening. About 170 artworks will be for sale with a range of prices to suit every budget and enough variety to satisfy all tastes. In addition to regular exhibitors like Jos Couf- reur, Graham MacDon- ald, Donna Massey and Susannah Law, the hos- pice has sought out some new artists for their interesting styles and techniques. There will be paintings by body painter and makeup art- ist Caroline Viesnik, 1960s-inspired pop art by Jo Mallinger, black and white etchings by Lisz Bodsworth and vivid grid-patterned paintings by Pam Tapp, along with sculptures, textile art and photogra- phy from other amateur and professional artists. Prices range from less than $100 to $2500 and the commission from all sales goes towards hospice s services for terminally ill patients and their families in the Rodney ward. M-art-akana previews from 6pm today with admission by donation, and wine and cheese pro- vided by Omaha Bay Vineyard and Puhoi Val- ley Cheese. The exhi- bition is then open, with free entry, from noon- 6pm on Friday and 9am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. The event is also supported by Bay- leys Warkworth.
