Stormy Auckland Anniversary Weekend weather didn't stop former Pt Wells woman Marjorie Jackson enjoying her 105th birthday. Now a resident at the Amber- lea Rest Home in Algies Bay, Mrs Jackson spent the day with family and friends enjoying the party thrown for her. While a little hard of hearing these days Mrs Jackson still enjoys a good read. She grew up in Auckland and initially worked as a shorthand typist. She married George Jackson, a reverend in the Greenlane Congregational Church, in 1933. They lived at various places around Auckland, including Parnell, Greenlane and Epsom, before moving to Pt Wells. While they didn't have children, Mrs Jackson was heavily involved with the Crusader Union in the church, singing contralto in the choir, and making goods for church galas. But if there is a secret ingredi- ent to her longevity, Mrs Jack- son isn't letting on. If I tell you then what is the secret.'' Couple celebrates Golden anniversary: Johan and Tina Bakker celebrate at Orewa. Tina and Johan Bakker celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Thai'd Up Orewa res- taurant on January 30. Family and friends, including some from the Netherlands and Aust- ralia, attended in fancy dress using the letters T andJforthethemeofa great party. Tina and Johan arrived in New Zealand from Amsterdam with sons Marcel and Rene in 1967 and settled on the North Shore. After working for vari- ous companies they became self-employed. They opened and oper- ated a leathercraft shop in the Milford shopping centre. They later moved to manufacturing pottery and were self-taught, operating from their Beach Haven home. This involved John making their own kiln. They con- tinued this venture for about 20 years and with the help of their sons they also built several homes. In 1988 Tina and Johan built the first of several homes in Orewa and have lived and been active in the area since. They have three grand- children and three great grandchildren.
